$125.00 - Louis Vuitton: The Birth of Modern Luxury
Product Description The first in-depth portrait of one of the world's best-known luxury brands, this elegant volume traces the remarkable history of the House of Vuitton, which has been making practical but stylish luggage, handbags, and accessories for more than 150 years. Written with full access to the company's archives, the book itself demonstrates Louis Vuitton's passion for fine design in a stunning array of archival art, historical images, product designs and sketches, and cutting-edge advertising.
Author Paul-Gerard Pasols, former communications director and longtime consultant to Louis Vuitton, explores the company's tradition of quality and innovation in the context of sweeping changes in society, art, culture, fashion, and, above all, travel. Examining the life and times of the company's first three leaders-founder Louis (who invented the modern trunk), his son Georges, and his grandson Gaston-the text focuses on the firm's development under their guidance. It also discusses Vuitton's explosive growth toward the end of the 20th century, including the 1987 merger with Moët-Hennessy that made it part of LVMH, the world's largest luxury goods company, and spurred the expansion of its boutiques to more than 300 locations in 50 countries around the globe.
Most Recent Customer ReviewsDate : 2009-08-24 Summary : Louis Vuitton: The Birth of Modern Luxury The book pictured is the more exspensive leather bound with an actual leather handle. That is what I thought I had ordered. Recieved the less exspensive version with the photographed glossy cover of a leather bound book and handle. The inside first cover attached page was a little torn and hard cover a little beat up..the book was shipped in a padded envelope which was torn so bad all the cotton padding was coming out and was all over the book. Frankly I dont know how it even stayed in the envelope----other than that... the book itself is amazing if you love Louis Vuitton--the history alone is so informative---lots of color photography---over 600pages of fun entertainment--I kept it, for $83.00 it was worth that--plus If I sent it back--who knows the next one might be in worse condition.
Date : 2009-01-29 Summary : Just what I needed.... As a collector of Louis Vuitton since 1989, I appreciate and enjoy this "history book", very much. Do not buy it if you are wanting alot of photos and fluff of the current lines. This book is truly for those that enjoy a love affair with the company and products from a historical and quality standpoint.
Date : 2008-12-28 Summary : Exactimo Louis Vuitton This book has it all: a history lesson, an understanding and the very essence of Louis Vuitton style. The author clearly lives and understands LV. This book is a guide to understanding LV the family and the brand. This book is riveting and mind opening. LV is not just an expense bag or luggage. It is an adventure and is for the adventurous. I love this book.
